Karen Price, Owner
Karen is a lifelong animal lover. She enrolled in the Pre-Vet program at U-Mass Amherst graduating with a BS in Animal Science. After a few years working with a medical supply distributor and then a food distributor, she found a great job with Central Garden & Pet, the largest pet supply wholesaler and manufacturer in the world. Karen worked as a Special Accounts Manager at Central Garden & Pet for 8 years. After having children, her desire to have a better work and home balance prompted her to open South Paws in 2006 with the support of her husband Tim.
Amanda Burns, Team Leader
Amanda has been with us since 2011 as our Professional Groomer and Team Leader. She graduated from Mt Ida and has many years of experience grooming in salons, vet offices, retail outlets, and mobile grooming. All of her experience shows in the work that she does. In 2015, Amanda completed her education to become a Professional Dog Trainer with The Animal Behavior College. She is also active in helping out local rescues and shelters.
Jenn Velardi, Team Leader
Jen has been on the South Paws team since 2011 where she started out as a handler and is now one of our Team Leaders. She is a graduate of U-Mass Amherst and holds a BS in Psychology. Jen previously worked for Cohasset Kennel and CVS Pharmacy. When she is not at South Paws, Jen holds a part-time position as an assistant at the Duxbury Animal Shelter.
Paula has been a valuable member of our team since 2016 and has worked with animals since she was 18. She has 2 boxers of her own, Bill & Ty. Paula and her boyfriend, Andy, recently became homeowners in Rockland. She’s currently enrolled in the Esthetics program at Spa Tech. She’s very excited to see where the Esthetics program takes her but she’s sure it will be with animals because that’s where her heart lies. Paula has an affinity for dogs with human names and has a sudden interest in home remodeling. She’s excited to be starting the newest journey in her life.
Beth joined us in 2012 when we needed a little short term help for a few hours a day a couple of days a week. Beth has been with us ever since. She has a love for all the dogs in our care, especially the small dogs. When Beth is not at South Paws, she is a school bus driver for the Town of Pembroke.
Cathy has been with South Paws since 2014. Prior to that, she was a Personal Trainer at Body to Soul Fitness for 9 years. In 2011, she received her Holistic Health Coach Certification and also works as a Personal Trainer for Anytime Fitness in Kingston.
Amanda graduated from Bridgewater State College with a degree in Criminal Justice in 2009 but always knew that working with animals is what truly makes her happy! She has many years’ experience working in daycares, kennels, shelters and veterinary facilities. She also received her Veterinary Assistant Certificate from Massasoit in 2015. Amanda now lives in Pembroke with her husband and has two dogs rescue dogs of her own!
Grace came to us in 2016 and is a MA native. She has 5 years experience working for a cat rescue in Chicago and also attended classes at Chicago Canine Academy. Upon moving to TX, Grace worked for a national pet boarding chain called “Pet Paradise”. Just prior to coming on board with us, Grace was a dog walker in the Metro-Boston area. She is currently working on her Business Management Degree from Strayer University.
Mike Lavery, GM of Operations
Mike Lavery joined the team in 2018 and comes to us with managerial experience in daycare and boarding. He also works with a rescue and helped thousands of dogs find homes. He has a B.A. in Video Production from Franklin Pierce University and loves experimenting with his creative side. His wife Shannon works at the MSPCA and is an animal lover as well. They recently moved to Weymouth from Brighton but he grew up on the South Shore. They are sports lovers as their first date was at Fenway Park. The two have a cat named Taco. All three are thrilled to be part of the South Paws family.
